Construction Drawings Completed

January 2018

It's been a few months since the last post.  We had to narrow down some details with the design so that the documents could be generated to get contractor bids.  Throw in some work trips, scheduling conflicts, structural engineer inputs, and we're all the way into December 2017 as finally getting the drawings complete.

Here's a look at the exterior drawings.  It's gonna be funky, like all proper things from the 1970s, but will end up with a modern twist.  We liked the idea of using horizontal siding on the existing structure combined with vertical siding on the new sections.

Wondering why the two story dormer roofline goes up?  Well, that's because we needed a silly little thing called headroom.  If the roof had sloped down (the way it does on the one story dormer), we would have only had about 4' clearance on that dormer wall.  That wouldn't be very functional in the loft bathroom or bedroom, that is, unless you are a toddler or our elderly bones shrink down to toddler size.  So change the angle on the roof line it shall be.

Not much changed on the interior from the last post.  But for historical and posterity's sake, I'll sum up.  We decided to squeeze in a stackable full-size laundry on the main floor bathroom and move the shower up to the loft off the master bedroom.  Dimensions were updated to be more accurate, and thus the kitchen and living area were larger.

Something you may not know about me: I love games, board games, card games, dice games, games I'm good at, and even games I'm not - as long as it's not Monopoly or Risk, those are just painful torture sessions that I cannot get behind.  I can get a bit competitive but love the family bonding it creates (or destroys as we all get cut-throat).  The game we're playing now...the waiting game to get contractor bids.  Have I mentioned that patience is not my strongest quality??

We currently have 2 bids back (both from GCs in the city) and are waiting on 2 more located in the mountains.  GCs in the mountains are hard enough to get ahold of but add in Christmas, New Years, off-season vacations, and we are still anxiously awaiting.  Fingers crossed we will have 2 more bids within the next 2 weeks.

Stay tuned for the next post to discuss the bidding wars.
